Bellringers

The bells have been rung at Deane Church since before 1541. This was the year that King Henry VIII, by Letters Patent, ordained the Chapel of Saynte Mariden.

The peal was increased from six to eight bells in 1896, their dedication being in a service on Wednesday 20th May. The first peal of Kent Treble Bob Major was rung on Saturday July 25th 1896.

It took 5088 changes in 2 hours 43 minutes to complete.

If you wish to learn this ancient English art at Deane, there are few restrictions. The first is that you can climb a ladder, the second is that you can raise both arms above your head, and the third is that you can count up to eight.

We belong to the Bolton branch of the Lancashire Association of Change Ringers, their website can be reached by clicking the logo at the top of the page.

We recently took delivery of some new muffles from Big Wilf's Muffles which replace some probably dating back to the 18th Century.

We currently don't ring on Sundays as there are not enough of us.

When asked to ring for weddings, we often borrow from neighbouring towers. To book the bells for your wedding, please contact the Rector.
